Synopsis

  • The Google Cloud File Stream installer will not permit installation on Windows 2016 Server.  Since Windows 10 and Windows 2016 Server have the same underpinnings, most things that run on Windows 10 should also function properly on Windows 2016 Server, even if not officially supported by software vendors.

Source Client Operating System Version

  • Windows 10 Pro Version 10.0.17134 N/A Build 17134

Process

1. Extract the “Drive File Stream” to the following folder:

C:\Program Files\Google

2. Right-Click “Merge” the following registry key files:

GoogleDriveFileStreamRegKeys1.reg
GoogleDriveFileStreamRegKeys2.reg

3. Right-Click “Install” the following driver from the “Drivers\2454” folder:

googledrivefs2454.inf

4. Reboot

5. Launch Google Drive File Stream by executing the following file:

C:\Program Files\Google\Drive File Stream\26.1.42.2151\GoogleDriveFS.exe

Cache Folder(It appears that the “C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Google\DriveFS\” can be safely deleted, as it’s recreated on next startup.):
